Police Discover Two Burglary Suspects After Car Crash

Covina Police Officers discovered two burglary suspects after responding to a dispatch for a traffic collision. The two male suspects are 20-year-old Awad Khair Zaben of Fontana and 27-year-old Jose Francisco Chavez of Fontana.

On Tuesday around 1:08 p.m., Covina police arrived at a solo vehicle traffic collision in the 1500 block of E. Via Verde St. in the City of Covina and they noticed two men running away from the area of the traffic collision. Covina Police Officers then chased after them and quickly detained the two male suspects for further investigation. Authorities say the officers discovered that the two suspects were the driver and passenger of the vehicle that crashed into the embankment.

After the investigation, records showed that the car was reported stolen out of the City of Corona on March 4, 2016. Police Officers say they found several personal items in other people’s names in the car and they recognized the same property that was stolen earlier in the day at the Sacred Heart Church parking lot in the City of Covina.

Covina Police arrested Zaben and Chavez and charged them with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and for investigation burglary. Chavez was also additionally charged with being in possession of burglary tools. Authorities say both suspects are housed at the Covina Police Department Jail on $50,000 and they are pending their arraignment at on March 10, 2016.
