Man Arrested for Shooting a West Covina Police Officer

West Covina Police arrested a man Thursday morning who they shot at a police officer Friday, May 20th.

Police say the suspect, Jose Luis Chavez, was pulled over for suspicious activity. The interaction went south very quickly although police still do not know what prompted the gun violence from the suspect.

After multiple shots were fired, the suspect fled the crime scene. The West Covina Police Department announced a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest.

Early Thursday morning, the suspect was arrested after he was found hiding in a back structure of a house in La Puente. No information on whether he resides there is available. Whether or not the reward played a part in Chavez’s arrest has yet to be seen.

Chavez is currently in holding and is likely to be tried for attempted murder of a police officer.
