Azusa Police Arrest Two Through Neighborhood Watch Program

Info from Azusa Police Department News Release

During the last several months, there has been an increase in property crimes in the Rosedale portion of Azusa. Police officers from the Azusa Police Department have teamed up with residents in that area, to form an aggressive two-pronged attack to these crimes.

azusa police news_release_standardFirst, the police officers have been providing extra patrol services to this area, through the use of a variety of methods. Some of these methods include surveillance of neighborhoods and parks, as well as the quick enforcement of city and state laws when crimes are observed. Second, residents have formed a very coordinated neighborhood watch program. Members of this program have reported suspicious vehicles, subjects and activities to the police department, which has led to criminals being apprehended and placed in jail.

Today, a male subject identified as 37 year-old Avery Sheldon, was contacted by police officers at the private pool at 970 Sweetbriar Ln. The officers confirmed Sheldon was not a resident or authorized to use the pool area, and it was quickly discovered Sheldon also had a warrant for his arrest for selling narcotics. Sheldon was arrested and transported to the Azusa Police Department’s Jail facility.

Shortly after the arrest of Sheldon, Azusa Police officers contacted 34 year-old David Firestine at Ridgeview Park, which is at 1305 N. Vosburg Drive, also in the Rosedale area. During this contact, officers learned that Firestine was on parole for arson, and he had a warrant for his arrest, for violation the terms of his parole. Firestine was arrested and transported to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles.
