Officials reported that two fires in Azusa and Duarte, referred to as the San Gabriel complex fires, are now starting to be contained.
The first of the two fires, known as the Reservoir fire, started by a fatal car crash near the Morris Dam on Highway 39. The second fire, known as the Fish fire, ignited near Fish Canyon in Duarte. The cause of this fire is under investigation
The Reservoir fire has burned 1,200 acres while the Fish fire has scorched 3,700 acres.
Over 1,400 firefighters made up of Los Angeles County Firefighters and Sheriff’s Deputies, along with many other police agencies, organizations, and volunteers have successfully contained 10% of the fire. They will continue to work to contain more of the fire over the next week.
Wednesday morning Officials announced that some residents in Duarte will be allowed to return to their homes. These residents will have to have an ID to be able to return. No oversized vehicles will be allowed in the area as Fire Officials still have large vehicles driving along those streets.
At this time officials have said there will be no other mandatory evacuations, however this could change depending on the conditions of the fire.
Officials reasoning for not allowing more residents to return is due to the fact that the department needs to have efficient room on the roads in order to counter any changes in the fire. Once the fire becomes more contained, people will slowly be allowed to return to their homes.
For all of those who are unable to return home at this time there will be a community meeting at 7PM at the North View Intermediate School in the cafeteria, located at 1401 Highland Ave, Duarte, CA 91010.
At this time there is no estimated time for containment for both of the fires, Officials said.
