Former ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Winner Faces Domestic Violence Charges

On Thursday, 27 year old Joshua Demon Allen was indicted on domestic violence charges by the Los Angeles Country District Attorney’s Office for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend on multiple occasions. Allen, winner of the fourth season of “So You Think You Can Dance”, faces three felony and four misdemeanor counts for his actions.

Allen was previously convicted of a misdemeanor Jan. 13 for injuring his girlfriend and ordered to avoid contacting her. However, this did  not seem to deter him when he reportedly attacked and choked his girlfriend on April 13. This led to another prosecution against him. Then, Allen allegedly confronted his girlfriend again a few months after the April 13 incident on June 19, when the events reported escalated from previous instances. The victim went inside a coffee shop seeking help and Allen pursued her, causing havoc by launching a glass vase at one intervening bystander and clashing with another in the process. He also vandalized the coffee shop’s interior before more bystanders were able to overwhelm him.

As a result, Allen is charged with a total of seven counts: two felony domestic violence counts, one felony assault with a deadly weapon count, two misdemeanor court order violation counts, and one each of misdemeanor battery and vandalism counts. Allen may spend more than ten years behind bars if he is found guilty on all charges. The prosecutors want bail to be set at $270,000.

The Los Angeles Police Department, North Hollywood Station is continuing this investigation.
