A police pursuit ended in a mess of injuries when a white Acura slammed into two other vehicles at the Francisquito and Walnut intersection yesterday evening.
On July 18 at around 7:51 p.m., 26 year old La Puente resident Robert Lopez initiated a high-speed pursuit after a West Covina police car spotted Lopez’s white Acura at Holton and Avington. Lopez fled from police in the Acura by turning onto Francisquito St from Avington, but he did not get far from police when he sped through a stop sign and smashed his car into a white Nissan Maxima and white Ford Expedition that were crossing the Francisquito and Walnut intersection.
Every occupant of all three cars suffered injuries from the crash and are currently in unknown condition. The Maxima contained a mother and two daughters, one of whom is 8 months old and was seriously injured, and all three were transported to County USC Medical Center. The four occupants of the Expedition were all transported to local hospitals. As for Lopez, he was arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment.
California Highway Patrol has assumed responsibility for working on the ongoing investigation, where Lopez is expected to be charged with two felony counts of evasion and DUI causing injuries.
