The Los Angeles County District Attorney announced on Wednesday that Andres Spancky Raya, 21 years old, was sentenced to two years in a state prison for throwing his female Pitbull mix down the edge of a hill.
Raya, who was previously sentenced to two years in state prison for an unrelated first-degree residential burglary case, was given a five-year sentence for the animal cruelty charge.
On Wednesday, the prosecutor announced that Raya had thrown his dog, Mary Jane, from a cliff in the 1300 block of Luella Drive to a ravine 145 feet below on two different occasions, once on September 26th and the other on September 28th, 2016. Both incidents were caught on video by a neighbor who then reported the animal abuse and helped to rescue the dog.
This case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control.
