Man Convicted of Beating Transgender Woman

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that Nicol Shakhnazaryan, has been convicted of one felony count of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury in the plea argument. He pleaded no contest in the beating of a transgender woman in Hollywood. He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 4th in Department 105 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

The co-defendant, Samuel Garunts, pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury in February 2017, and was sentenced to three years’ probation and was required to pay around $24,000 to the California Victim Compensation Board.

The victim, was attacked by a group of men in the 6200 block of Hollywood Boulevard in the early morning on May 31, 2013, suffering a broken jaw, broken ribs, two fractured eye sockets and other injuries.
