Man Charged with Police Assault During a Car Chase

Tom Rojas, 37, has pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of assault of a peace officer, one felony count or fleeing a pursuing peace officer’s vehicle while driving recklessly, and vandalism causing over $400 in damage. Rojas has also been charged with one misdemeanor count of  hit-and-run driving resulting in property damage. 

On March 9 Rojas is believed to have driven his car into the glass door of a store in Montebello. When officers arrived on scene Rojas allegedly fled and was pursued by police for nearly an hour. 

During the pursuits Rojas allegedly hit one police vehicle and attempted to hit another.

If convicted Rojas faces a maximum sentence of eight years and two months in state prison. His bail has been set as $170,000.

No officers were injured during the pursuit.
