Businesses Targeted by Fake Fire Inspectors

LA County District Attorney Steve Cooley is warning businesses to be aware of scammers posing as fire inspectors.  The thieves come in to “inspect” fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, and sprinkler systems.  Then they trick employees into signing documents that they use later to bill the business owner.  Cooley says fire departments conduct these kind of inspections and do not charge any fees.

The District Attorney’s office asks anyone who sees suspicious activity like this to call local law enforcement or fire departments, or the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Public Affairs Section at (323) 881-2411.
