The City of Pasadena’s annual “Pasadena Idol” teen singing competition will take place at 5:00pm on Saturday, August 18th, at Paseo Colorado’s Garfield Promenade. Hosted by the City’s Human Services and Recreation Department, the free and public event will feature 20 exciting local youth who will sing to “wow” the community and win a series of prizes, according to the City.
Jesse Flores, the runner-up winner in the 2009 competition, told the City recently that, “Pasadena Idol is a great opportunity for youth to do what they love, just as I once did when it first began a few years ago, and it changed the path of my life forever.”
The grand prize winner of this year’s event will win studio time to produce a two-song demo, 100 CDs, and the development of a music video, according to the City. Second and third place prizes will also be awarded in the event.
The 20 competitors in this year’s event were selected as finalists after a series of recent auditions. They also attended a series of workshops conducted by local production company sponsors and the LA Music Academy to help improve their performance skills and techniques in preparation for the event, according to the City.
The “Pasadena Idol” event is free to the public and will be located at Paseo Colorado’s Garfield Promenade, between Colorado Boulevard and Green Street. A red carpet walk for the event’s contestants will take place between 3:00-4:30pm, followed by performances at 5pm. For more information on the event, call Dolores Mendoza at (626) 744-7507.
