As Home of the Cheeseburger: Pasadena Celebrates Cheeseburger Week

If you’re into a meaty, cheesy burger topped with some ketchup, mustard, and perhaps some bacon, then this is your week to try out this tasty, traditional cuisine in Pasadena for its third annual Cheeseburger Week. This event kicked off on Sunday, January 12 and will run until Friday, January 17.

City officials say it’s Cheeseburger Week in Pasadena because this delicious grub was created there. They say in 1924 a teenager, named Lionel Sternberger cooked and served “the cheeseburger” to a customer at his father’s roadside stand called the Rite Spot. From that point on, the 15-cent cheeseburger became a hit in Pasadena; which drew people to the Rite Spot to taste this cheesy goodness.

So in honor of Lionel Sternberger, representatives say they are inviting visitors and residents to go to Pasadena’s participating restaurants at this event and vote for their favorite cheeseburger. They say there are a number of categories to vote for and a variety of different cheeseburgers to satisfy your taste and dietary needs.
