West Covina Crime Stats Now Available on Police Department Website

By Anna Buss

The West Covina Police Department recently updated its webpage to include year-to-year Universal Crime Report (UCR) statistics for 2012 and 2013 along with a 5-year Part 1 Crime Report for the City of West Covina, says Public Information Officer Rudy Lopez.

The 2012-2013 statistical report compares UCR crime reports taken by the West Covina Police Department related to Homicides, Rape, Robbery, Aggravated Assaults, Burglary, Larceny/Theft, Motor Vehicle Thefts and Arson. The individual categories also identify the percentage of change between the two year reporting periods. It can be found at http://www.wcpd.org/documents/Statistics/WCPD_Part_1_Crimes_Rpt_2012-2013.pdf

A 5-year Crime Statistic link includes a West Covina 5-Year (2009-2013) Part 1 Crime Report overview and compares these same categories to cities in the San Gabriel Valley for the reporting year of 2012. Part 1 crime statistics are collected by the F.B.I. for law enforcement agencies nationwide. It can be found at http://www.wcpd.org/documents/Statistics/WCPD_5_Yrs_Part_1UCR_Summary.pdf

The F.B.I. 2013 National UCR crime report is not yet available for publication, so the 2012 FBI UCR data was used for the San Gabriel Valley comparison. Lopez says the Crime Statistics web page and accompanying information will be updated once the 2013 comparison information becomes available.

In addition, a Graffiti Report which will be updated monthly has been posted showing the number of complaints received, the locations of the graffiti and the amount of square footage affected. The percentage of change is also listed for each of the categories, at http://www.wcpd.org/documents/Statistics/Jan-Feb_2014_Graffiti_Report.pdf
