Rose City Church hosted a job fair with over 30 businesses and 400 potential employees on Wednesday.
Gerhard Krämer is the Founder of ChurchJobFairs.org and believes churches are the perfect place for a job fair.
Why? Kramer explained, “”the distinction between us and a normal job fair is the fact that this place is here to provide hope 365 days a year. Most job fairs change form such as, today it’s a hotel, tomorrow it’s a job fair and the next day it’s a business meeting or a quinceanera.”
Rose City Church’s job fairs have a different outlook on their employee, employer process. First, the employees are brough into a room where they are given a bag (donated by the Los Angeles Sheriff Department), pen, bottled water, mint and one last look in the mirror before they meet their possible future employer. A pastor also gives them an encouraging pep talk to boost their spirits and a blessing to calm the nerves.
Krämer prefers to “let 20-30 in at a time to make sure everyone has an equal opportunity to talk to each employer” and to take out the daunting feeling of a competition.
Thanks to Pastor Dan, Rose City has also made great strides towards impacting the youth in their community with their Rose City Coffee program. When Dan arrived to Rose City in 2009, he noticed many homeless youths sleeping on their property and decided to lend a helping hand. The program trains four to five homeless or transitional youths for three to four months in the barista business. Dan and his workers focus on quality coffee with a professional attitude. His work has helped many kid’s better their lives and take a different outlook on life.
