25th Black Tie Gala Wows Guests
The Hospital’s Crystal Ball raises $700,000 and kicks off the fall social scene in the San Gabriel Valley.
Methodist Hospital’s 25th Annual Crystal Ball, held October 11th at the Pasadena Convention Center, successfully raised $700,000 in support of a new Acute Rehabilitation Unit, set for completion by 2016.
Event co-chairs Ron Okum and Mickey Segal could not be more pleased with the evening’s results.
The annual gala honored Christine Antonovich and her husband, Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, for their many years of service and dedication to the hospital and the Crystal Ball.
Christine, a three-time Crystal Ball co-chair, and Michael, a longtime Los Angeles County Supervisor, have enthusiastically supported Crystal Ball and its efforts to rally community support for hospital services and programs.
The 885 guests arrived to a red-carpet greeting, complete with photographer, and were later treated to a gourmet dinner, followed by a delightfully nostalgic and entertaining performance by Paul Anka. During the hosted reception before dinner, guests participated in electronic bidding on wonderful silent auction items.
A special video celebrating the history of Crystal Ball featured the first co-chair and founder of the event, Celia Kalm. After dinner, another video telling the story of rehab patient Henry Cheng led the evening’s live fundraising activities, which raised $189,000. Cheng was a special guest in the audience.
The live auction offered exciting items such as a Disney Dream Party, a Dodgers suite for 20, a catered dinner with the Antonoviches and Cole and Cindy Harris, and the opportunity to have Paul Anka write and record lyrics for a personal song to the tune of “My Way.”
