Storm Brings Power Outages and High Rainfall, Mudflow; Closes Local School

Dave Kelty, a retired Alhambra Firefighter digs away at getting mud out of his driveway on Highland in Monrovia after Thursday night’s rains. Kelty, who served 37 years on the fire dept. took it in his stride when he said that they had over two inches of rainfall overnight . He said the same thing happens every year with the rainfall and the mud just comes from one place he said and has been doing so since 1980.

Minor flooding was reported in Arcadia as well as Monrovia but no major incidents to date.

Sierra Madre Elementary School was closed Friday due to a power outage caused by a storm that hit San Gabriel Valley.
Pasadena Unified School District officials said in a press release that parents were notified about the school closure in a phone message sent early Friday morning.

Power outages affected nearly 50,000 customers of Southern California Edison and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, officials said.

Reported power outages in the San Gabriel Valley affected Arcadia, South Pasadena, Sierra Madre, Altadena, Alhambra and Rosemead, according to Southern California Edison.

PUSD officials said Sierra Madre Middle School did not lose power. Classes are scheduled to resume at Sierra Madre Elementary School on Monday.
