West Covina Police Identify Murder Suspect

policetapeWest Covina Police say they have identified a suspect in the fatal shooting that happened April 29.

Patrol officers discovered the deceased  body of 36-year-old male Jabarri Butts near a dumpster south of 501 S. Vincent last Wednesday. Detectives then began the investigation.

In another incident shortly afterwards, the Covina PD reported another shooting in their city. Authorities say the suspect is  Manuel Lujan, a local street gang member and parolee who they say fired several rounds through his ex-girlfriend’s window. Lujan fled the area, but his vehicle was found parked at a hotel in Covina.

Lujan was also identified as the suspect in the West Covina homicide, as well as a robbery and assault that took place in La Puente on April 26th.

Lujan was found April 30th in Gardena, Calif. and arrested without incident.

On May 4, 2015 the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed six counts against Lujan, including murder, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, and shooting at an inhabited dwelling and brandishing a firearm
