On Sunday afternoon, two hikers discovered bones on the Chaney Trail near Echo Mountain, Altadena.
The LA County Sheriff’s Department Homicide investigators and the members of the LA County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner responded to a call around 8:40 p.m. Sunday to investigate the human bones. Authorities say the hikers left the two bones at the site and took pictures of them to show the deputies and coroner’s office investigators.
Because it was dark, investigators waited until the morning to recover the bones and search for other bones. The coroner’s office investigators say the human bones look like they may have been there for several years. Authorities say the site where the bones were found is not easily reached but is in a popular hiking area in the Los Angeles National Forest.
Investigators will research the missing person’s reports and dental records to identify the person.
