Four ordinary people were recognized for their extraordinary actions yesterday concerning different crimes they helped bring to justice.
“Our honorees had the courage to intervene despite frightening and dangerous circumstances,” District Attorney Lacey said. “They stepped into unknown peril to right a wrong, even if it meant compromising their own safety. Today, we honor and celebrate these heroic individuals.”
Michael Collier and Sylvester June Board III aided in stopping gang violence that occurred in Long Beach. This lead to the conviction of three minors sentencing them to six months in camp community placement.
Patrick Connell found an unconscious 13-year old boy being dragged away by an older old man when he entered the bathroom. He freed the boy and returned him to his parents who then called police.
Rebecca Madrigal, found a woman in a parking lot being assaulted and by an elderly man. She stepped in and aided in the victim until police came.
The four honorees were recognized this afternoon at a Courageous Citizen Awards luncheon hosted by the Long Beach Rotary Club.
