Irwindale officials say the maker of the popular hot chili sauce Sriracha can continue operations at its plant as long as it doesn’t stink up the city. They say Irwindale proposed a preliminary injunction against Huy Fong Foods because nearby residents complained about a powerful chili/garlic odor that infused the air. City leaders say dwellers in the area mentioned that the smell caused their eyes to burn, gave them coughing fits, created gagging sensations, gave them heartburn, and nosebleeds.
The court has ordered Huy Fong Foods to make immediate changes to reduce the irritating and offensive odor. The food company has until Monday to file an opposition to the proposed preliminary injunction.
