Local Irish Dancers Compete at North American Championships

By Erika Weiler, CCN Intern

Several local Irish dancers competed at the North American Championships in Montreal, Canada between July 2 to July 6.

This annual event is “an exciting time for the dancers and their teachers, because they travel across North America and dance on a large bright stage in the hopes of accomplishing their goals,” according to a press release.

Throughout the five days dancers competed in solo and/or team competitions. The dancers were scored by a panel of judges and received awards in the evening.

The 2014 North American Irish Dance Championships is an international Irish Dance competition hosted by the Irish Dance Teachers Association of Eastern Canada.  This is one of the largest competitions that dancers mostly from Canada, the United States, and Mexico perform at each year.

The event included vendors, who sold Irish dance products and fun Irish items. There will also be live musicians playing for each dancer as they perform on stage.
