“National College Resources Foundation Prepares Students for over 1 million jobs coming to California”
According to My College Options recent report, by 2018 California will be ranked #1 with over 1-million jobs available in STEM. National College Resources Foundation (NCRF) brings Students Think STEAM College Expo to LA Trade Tech, Saturday, October 25, 2014. As new companies emerge like Google, Facebook, Instagram, Alibaba, Amazon and Apple, more workforce will be in demand to fill positions. There is a huge workforce gap in gender and minority groups in STEAM.
With the growing demand for a society driven by digital technology, NCRF, a full service non-profit outreach program with the focus of curtailing high school dropout rate and increasing enrollment to college, decided to create “Students Think STEAM College Expo.” “With the decrease in numbers for minorities, going into STEAM fields, and low test scores in math and sciences in inner city schools, this event is designed to get students excited about math and sciences so students can be successful in the classroom and in life,” says Founder Theresa Price.
The day will include over 40 Colleges presenting their S.T.E.A.M. education opportunities to students, along with exciting interactive presentations and seminars in: Bio-tech, Robotics, DJ and Engineering, Live Animation, Fine Arts, Fashion, Aerospace, Technology, Water Waste, Electrical Engineering, Food/Plant Science and much more. Students will engage with Engineers and IT professionals now spreading beyond the traditional industries into new areas like hospitality, music and healthcare. Beyond the classroom, schools, colleges and universities at all levels see the need to introduce these areas of disciplines to students at an early age, encouraging them to pursue these career paths.
“We are trying to help close the workforce gap in S.T.E.A.M. fields for low resource students, and this expo can help do just that,” says Founder Theresa Price. The Los Angeles 9th District City Councilman, Curren D. Price, Jr., is hosting the STEAM event with NCRF. It is a FREE event for all ages and open to the public. In addition to the Students Think S.T.E.A.M. College Expo, NCRF will also host the 1st Annual Latino College Expo on December 13, 2014, the 16th Annual Black College Expo in January 2015, and an Annual Student Athlete Sports Expo during the spring.
