Pasadena Board of Education Appoints Dr. Eddie Newman to Personnel Commission

downloadThe Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education has selected Dr. Eddie Newman as its representative to the district’s Personnel Commission. The decision took place at a Board meeting Aug. 27.

The Personnel Commission is an independent body responsible for recruiting, selecting and promoting classified or non-teaching staff in the district according to merit system provisions of the Education Code.

The previous representative Commissioner Ernestine Moore announced her resignation in August after serving as the Board appointee since 2009.

A public hearing is scheduled Oct. 8 during a Board of Education meeting in order to provide the public, employees and employee organizations the opportunity to express their views on the qualifications of the person.

Dr. Eddie Newman has received a Master’s of Science from CSU Sacramento and an Ed.D in school leadership from Nova Southeastern University in Florida.

Dr. Newman has a long history of service with PUSD, first as a teacher at McKinley Junior High then as counselor, Assistant Principal and Principal at John Muir High School. She was also the district’s director of Regional Occupational Programs, partnership academies and adult education until her retirement in 2008. She helped open Learning Works Charter school in Pasadena in 2008 and remained there as administrator until 2010.
